PRP Therapy for Skin & Hair Rejuvenation

PRP Therapy the healing is within our own blood

Platelet Rich Plasma – PRP Therapy for Skin and Hair

Dr. Sherman and his amazing team are excited to offer Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy for hair and skin rejuvenation in Augusta, GA. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy has long been used to heal joint injuries in pro-athletes and even longer in the dental industry. As of recent years PRP has been the big buzz in the Aesthetic and Hair Restoration industry. PRP contains important growth factors that promote healing and because PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood there is no known side effects with this treatment.  Your medical history will determine whether you are a candidate for this treatment.

So what exactly is PRP Therapy and what does it do for the skin?

The key ingredient that makes PRP so effective are Blood Platelets. Platelets play several important roles in your body. Most notably, Platelet Rich Plasma encourages new cells to grow while removing old, damaged cells from the site of injury. So, when injected or micro-needled into the skin or scalp the Platelets are activated rushing to the site that appears to have been injured. This means elastin fiber and collagen production are increased therefore able to repair and plump the skin. PRP injections are ideal to rejuvenate the delicate under-eye area and can be injected really anywhere there is evidence of volume loss in the face. PRP injections can encourage healing of new scars and is known to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. PRP can also be injected in the hands, décolleté and any area you desire to rejuvenate. Prep Your skin prior to PRP Therapy and/or combine PRP with microneedling for even better results.

How does PRP Therapy work for hair-growth?

When PRP is injected or micro-needled into the scalp where the thinning or balding is apparent, the PRP can awake weak hair follicles and sometimes even force dormant hair follicles to re-enter the natural growth cycle.  Existing hair follicles are strengthened and lost hair is replaced by new growth. Of course if the hair loss is due to genetics such as male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness, PRP may only help to slow down the hair loss and eventually the person suffering from genetic hair loss may have to resort to hair transplantation for long-lasting hair restoration. Look at PRP like a skin and hair booster, versus a permanent solution.

*3-4 treatments 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for best results when it comes to hair restoration.

What you can expect the day of the PRP Treatment

After arriving and completing your medical history, and checking in, one of our friendly medical professionals will draw your blood and numb the area you desire to rejuvenate (face, scalp, décolleté, hands). Our staff will then spin the blood in a machine called a centrifuge and separate the platelet rich plasma from the rest of the blood. Dr. Sherman will then draw-up the PRP into small syringes and inject it in the area of need. Some patients will also incorporate the PRP into their micro-needling facials and our esthetician will coat the skin with the PRP during and after the procedure. The PRP seeps into the micro-holes (created by the Micro-Pen) the healing process begins.  The immediate benefit of adding PRP to your micro-needling facial is faster healing, less redness, less swelling, and improved plumping leaving the skin healthy and with a renewed glow.

What to do after receiving your PRP Treatment (s)

After receiving your PRP skin treatment you should not wear makeup for the remainder of the day and also not expose your skin to an abundance of germs. (No grocery store or gym) Take the rest of the day off if possible and go home. You can return to your normal activities the next day (12 hours after treatment). As with any skin treatment you should not use harsh chemicals or products containing irritants. You may experience a mild sunburn feeling for 24-48 hours after PRP treatments of the face. If you had PRP Hair Growth injections don’t wash your hair until 12 hours after treatment and then proceed to use gentle motion to remove numbing cream and any residue. Use a mild baby shampoo for a few days after procedure. New hair growth can be expected within 6-8 weeks after the procedure. Best results can be seen after 3-4 treatments within a 6-months period.  Don’t forget to schedule your treatments ahead of time and stay on schedule if you are planning on receiving 3 treatments or more for best results.  Your final results can be seen after 3-4 treatments within a 6-months period.

*If you have or had cancer in the past and/or suffer from an autoimmune disorder, we cannot treat you with PRP.
